At the subway, the villain Scareware is seen stealing experimental safety devices, as Superman comes to stop him, he teleports away. In the shadows, Scorn is lurking and observing the Man of Steel, intrigued by his figure, at the same time, Metallo is seeking revenge on Superman, so he takes control of a subway car.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Olsen is interviewing Professor Hamilton, one of the few people who understands the extent of Superman's power change, which the previous day had scared the Metropolis population as Superman struggled to control his newfound powers.

Metallo starts creating havoc in the city, setting several buildings on fire. Besides Superman and the S.C.U., Scorn is also helping with the situation, much to the public's shock. Seeing that the situation is being handled well thanks to Superman's new powers, Metallo takes control of a helicopter, a nuclear submarine and an aircraft carrier, merging all three into a single giant vehicle.

In a desperate effort, Superman drains all of the nuclear energy powering Metallo, defeating him but turning himself into a ticking time bomb. Superman flies into outer space to release all the energy, seemingly dying.
